September Update on Single Length:
As I continue to custom fit and sell the custom fitted Wishon EQ1 irons, hybrids and fairways the positive comments continue to come in. Golfers really like these new designs by Tom Wishon. Even the Sterling users who decided to switch to the EQ1s are very pleased at the added distance and gap control of the new designs. But, not only the irons but the hybrids and fairways too.
The hybrids are great and the fairways at shorter lengths are as long or longer than the standard off the shelf lengths you find in golf stores and golf shops. The fairways at 41 inches seem to work really well with just as much distance or more and far more control and easier to hit. Nothing but 5 star reviews for EQ1s.
2021 Single Length Update: Most of the information on this page has been here for several years now and is a bit dated. The Wishon Sterlings were great clubs and I played them from day one almost. The new generation EQ1-NX single length clubs are far better designs and now we have both hybrids and fairways that can be made single length too. If you read my Testimonials Page you will find many examples of my golfers who use single length and have improved their game. You will also see examples of golfers who prefer traditional length clubs and they too have great success with my custom fit clubs. Now that I have several years experience with single length I’m convinced that if you do not get to play and practice often they are the best choice for you to maintain a solid can consistent game.
I have players with all irons the same length and all hybrids a bit longer than all fairways even longer but all the same length. I also have players with irons and hybrids at the same length then fairways a good bit longer. All of this will be decided during the fitting sessions we have. There is no way to predetermine what you need based on what we think we know. There are so many variables to deal with we simply have to go through the process, ask all the questions and analyze the answers before we make your decision for your clubs.
Why would you as a Golfer want to change from Traditional Length Irons to Single Length Irons? …or Single Length hybrids? …or Single Length fairways?
With single length irons all irons are the same length, same weight, same lie angle, and have the same shaft. They only require you to learn one iron swing not 6 or 7 or 8 swings for 6, 7, or 8 irons of different lengths, depending on how many irons you have in your bag. Easier to practice, easier to warm up, easier to play. Should make it easier to perfect your iron swing with the same amount of practice as before.
Since the Wishon single length irons arrived on the scene I’ve sold many dozens of sets and my golfers love them. Especially those who have been playing for a long time and do not have the time to practice as much as they once did. Play all irons with the same stance, same ball placement in your stance and same swing. The only difference is the loft on the clubs to get different distances on your shots. Easy, peasy!
This year we are seeing the addition of Single length hybrids and fairways to go with the single length irons. No, that doesn’t mean that every club in the bag will be the same length. It means that all the irons will be one length, all the hybrids and be one length and all the fairways can be one length. For some the irons and hybrids can be the same length. Rather than having 13 different swings for 13 different lengths you can now have one swing for your driver, one swing for your fairways and one or two swings for hybrids and irons. We’ve all heard the K.I.S.S. theory, or Keep it simple stupid, so these new clubs makes it more simple to play golf. The simpler, or easier you make the game the easier it is to play. Right? Especially for the weekend or recreational golfer who doesn’t have the time to practice like the Club Champion or Tour Players.

- Do you have time to practice enough to be a great golfer?
- Do you want to simplify your game and make it more fun and easier to score better?
- How much practice time do you have?
- How often do you practice?
Single length clubs promote a simple concept to make playing the game easier. You only need one swing for all of your irons. Better ball striking, more accuracy, more consistency, leads to lower scores.

The single length idea have been popularized recently by the Current NCAA Champion and Current US Amatuer Champion Dryson DeChambeau. The idea is simple. All irons are the same length, same weight, same lie angle, same swingweight/MOI and all should swing the same way from club to club. The only difference in each club is the loft to achieve different distances, the same as traditional clubs.
Here is a video clip from Bryson DeChambeau: The Golf Scientist. By now you are probably aware of his performance at Augusta in the 2016 Masters. He was in second all alone through 35 holes. The clubs work.
The PinHawk Single Length Irons
Both are quality products but the Sterling is a higher priced club and is reported to have more technology to help golfers gain more distance. The proof is in the pudding though and since the Sterling’s are just now shipping it will be a while before we know how the PinHawk and the Sterling compare. If you want to find out try one of our members below and hit some demo clubs and find out how you like them.
The PinHawk set has a 4 hybrid option and the Sterling has a 5 hybrid option. Both are a result of the current success of NCAA golf champion Bryson DeChambeau using single length clubs. Although single length clubs have been around for a long time, DeChambeau winning the NCAA Championship and his recent success has helped to spur a new interest in single length irons in golfers around the world.
Bryson DeChambeau recently became the 2015 NCAA Individual Men’s Champion. He is a Physics major at Southern Methodist University (SMU) – and he has taken a very interesting approach to the golf clubs he plays with.
Of note… all of his irons are one length – 37-1/2 inches – and one lie angle – including his long irons and all of his wedges. Each club head weight is the same – 268 grams – and so the MOI and swingweight of each club is exactly the same. He has decided to do this so that he can use exactly the same golf swing for each club. The clubs where specially built for him.
His success has spurred interest in single length clubs. From the scattered reports from the sets that have gone out many golfers are finding them easy to hit and more consistent. It’s too early to say with certainty that the single length will work for all golfers but it seems at this point it does help some.
The demand has been such that the initial offers were sold out in record time and both companies listed here are struggling to get resupplied. It looks like it may be May or afterward before supply catches up with demand for single length irons. If you are interested you may need to buy now if you can find them available, or be prepared to wait a few months for supplies to catch up.
