I often have golfers as how their swing speed helps determine what shaft they need. Most believe that if they swing 100 MPH there is a shaft for 100 MPH and all golfers with 100 MPH swings can use the same shaft. Sorry, but there is a lot more to it. There are many factors that go into how you swing 100 MPH.

Shafts are designed for all of the above differences. Each of the factors above effect how your shaft will been and feel while you swing. The main consideration for a 100 MPH swing is the stiffness in the butt section of the shaft or under the grip. For explanations let’s assume a driver shaft is 45 inches long. This will give us three equal length sections of 15 inches each. We will call the sections the Butt section, the Mid section, and the tip section. I will use graphite shafts to explain how these sections work to help all types of swings in a later post. This is about the butt section and we need to cover the mid section and tip section. More later.
